Dookit

Donalds_Land

Before my time, but I think these two scenes are at the same place, Donald's Land at Three Ell Lane, or thereabouts, a hundred years apart. Nowadays known as sperr grun next to the big shed.Behind the billboards, stands a dookit, strengthened to epic proportions. A base of breezeblock gives top level security, with a reinforced door at the ground level. Upstairs is a small lookout window. And on the high balcony, the wee doos sit in the early afternoon sunshine and bill and coo in their palace of peace.

Ellen, the old pic is at Three Ell Lane, off Govan Road/Stag Street.
Wish we had a time machine eh.

A time machine would be great, but one night the next best thing to that happened. I had a dream I was back in old Govan, it seemed to be even before my time. It was a rainy night and the shops were all still opened and lit up inside. The shop fronts all had the old fronts, like they were around the 1930s. People were busy going in and out of shops and standing around outside. I was in Langlands Road, near Burleigh Street, but could see along James' Place and just stood watching everything. It was very real and I was so disappointed when I woke up.

No better feeling than you get thinking of Govan on a dark, rainy night and the shops lit up and twinkling. Love it Ellen. Thanks!
